A bereaved mom finds forgiveness

Diane Foley is the mom of journalist James Foley, who was publicly executed by Isis in 2014. These three girls are members of the London-based folkloric troupe, Fraternidad 100% Salay Filial Londres. They specialize in Salay, a type of folkloric dance originating from Cochabamba, Bolivia. The playful dance mimics farmers harvesting and sowing seeds. There are some 370 Salay dance teams worldwide. In 2019, it was declared a protected type of cultural heritage in Bolivia.

Niamh Barry photographed this group of people that belong, like Barry, to Dublin’s queer neighborhood.
